THE ISSUES: - A large percentage of children entering kindergarten in Waukegan and Round Lake could not write their own names, identify colors, or count ten items. - When children start school ready to learn, they have a much better chance of succeeding in the future. - There is a strong correlation between a child's success in learning and a parent's involvement in teaching their children. - Nearly thirty five percenty of parents indicated they would spend more time teaching their children if they knew what to do. THE SOLUTIONS: - Multi faceted, integrated programming for families with young children.  Partnerships with schools, congregations and organizations that support needy families provide reinforcement of skills and tools that will help children get the right start.
