Achieving instant success, this program started in one Waukegan school in February 2009 and has been expanded to four.  Volunteers are asked to donate approximately one hour per week, working with first through third graders, under the directon of the teacher.  Reading volunteers will read to groups of students; tutoring volunteers will work one on one to improve reading skills.  Training is provided.  Excellent opportunity for small groups to rotate weekly responsibilities, or for committed individuals to volunteer weekly.

Book Drives:
Join us in delighting and igniting a child's love of learning by collecting and donating books.  We are looking for new or gently used English, Spanish and bilingual books for children in preschool through third grade.  Books can be dropped off at United Way of Lake County's office during normal business hours.  Additionally, if cash is donated, books can be purchased by United Way through our Scholastic Literacy Partnership.
