The Women’s Leadership Council Be Bold Awards celebrate and honor courageous and compassionate women who take action to make a difference for Lake County women and children.  The program is designed to motivate other women to Be Bold and become actively engaged in efforts
that provide women and children of Lake County opportunities to succeed.

Women who are honored with the Be Bold Award demonstrate what is within reach for us all.  Each are a shining example of the tremendous impact an individual or organization can create by being bold.  The Be Bold Awards are presented to extraordinary women in the following categories:

Community | Education | Government | Media | Youth

2009:

The 2009 Be Bold Awards will be presented at the Women's Leadership Council's Annual Meeting, Tuesday, April 21, 2009 at the Atrium at Trustmark Companies in Lake Forest.  You can RSVP online here to attend the event.  Award recipients have been chosen by the WLC Steering Committee out of a pool of nominations from Women's Leadership Council members, past award recipients and United Way staff.

The awards will be presented as follows:

Community: Carolina DuQue, Executive Director of Mano a Mano, Round Lake, Illinois

A leader who creatively advances positive social change that uplifts the consciousness
of her community to the needs of those less fortunate.

Government: Louise Loud, Retired Director of Juvenile Court Services, Lake County 19th Judicial Circuit Court

A government official that employs forward thinking to advocate and uphold policy that
improves the lives of women and children in Lake County.

Education: Dee Elliott, Cirriculum Director of Waukegan Public Schools District 60, Waukegan, Illinois

An education and public awareness leader who demonstrates a profound commitment
to changing the lives of others through community service.

Youth: Martha Bissing, High School Senior at Woodlands Academy

A leader who uses local volunteerism to enhance the quality of life for
women and children in Lake County.
