Our Impact: Making a difference in the lives of women and children.

The 2008 Kindergarten Readiness Calendar (KRC) and companion workbook were distributed by the thousands over the summer.  With help from volunteers and staff, local schools, libraries, childcare centers and community organizations were provided these free resources for local children and families.  The Calendar has become so popular that other groups in Chicagoland and beyond are replicating our work to serve their communities.  Additionally, Abbott Labs, a key sponsor of the Calendar and other Success By 6 programming, is once again producing the calendar for their employees with young children.  Thanks to Kindergarten Readiness testing, we know that the KRC makes a statistically significant difference in increasing school readiness among children whose families used the materials.

January 2009 Kindergarten Club Contents

The Kindergarten Club postal mail program has graduated its first "class!"  Designed around health/nutrition, fitness, prevention and education themes, Kindergarten Club mailings are sent quarterly to families who participated in Kindergarten Camp sessions.  They reinforce the concepts learned in the summer programs and encourage the families to improve health and nutrition at the same time.  Each mailing includes a survey that has allowed us to collect data on time spent in learning activities and skill improvement.  The results from the first year of Kindergarten Club are phenomenal!  In every outcome area measured, over nine months the percentage of children and parents meeting the goals increased.  Check out the results here.

The Kindergarten Club Cookbook will be distributed in the October Kindergarten Club mailing and in the first of the Kindergarten Club follow up mailings (more on that to come!) as a thank you to parents who submitted recipies as a part of the returned tracking surveys.  This small collection of nearly 50 recipies, in English and Spanish, features an array of family favorites.  We're excited to distribute this fun piece to the families we've come to know through Success By 6 programming.
